First Six of the Strada Easel 30-Day Challenge

Strada Easel has challenged artists to do a plein air painting each day for the month of September. It's been a great way to motivate myself to paint daily. With this challenge I hope to improve my plein air painting. I am also curious to see the results of making a painting a day as this is not the nature of my studio work.

Day one. I learned a valuable lesson, never plein air paint in Chicago without an umbrella! I will definitely be googling some better ways to keep my paint dry while I'm out. You can not tell from this photo but the sky was changing from a beautiful clear sky to a stormy moody sky. I like both but can not go back and forth every 20 minutes with paint, not that fast yet! Also I have not painted outside in the rain so I haven't learned the tricks to accommodate this situation! Here I have clamped my umbrella to my easel. This umbrella was a gift from my parents and comes with a warranty, no questions asked (I double checked when I got back)

Day two. Something red outside.

Day three. I was not feeling in tip-top shape today, but I could not back out on day three! So I went out with this small canvas. Sometimes we have to compromise.

Day four. I drove to visit my friend for Labor Day. Luckily I was able to get this down before the sun set!
